Maori history

Māori are the indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand (Aotearoa), arriving in waka (canoes) from East Polynesia between 1250–1300 CE. They developed a distinct tribal society rich in oral tradition, art, and warfare, before signing the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi with Britain. Despite subsequent colonization, land loss, and conflict, Māori culture and language have experienced a significant revival since the late 20th century.
